Government First Grade College, Nelmangala, Bangalore

Government First Grade College, Nelamangala was established in the year 2007 as a result of government of Karnataka’s policy of extending the facility of higher education to the students of rural areas of the state.

The establishment of the college gave an opportunity for the students coming from socio-economically weaker section of the society, pursue higher education, without travelling to faraway places. The college, since its inception, has provided ample opportunities for rural students to pursue higher education.

This is evident from the fact that the college has a record of more enrolment of girl students than boys. The college was initially started in the Pre-university building in Nelamangala. The infrastructure of the college was limited to 10 rooms in the borrowed building. There were only 7 permanent teaching staff and 5 nonteaching staff with 137 students to start with.

Since then the college has witnessed a slow and steady progress in Academic and developmental aspects. The college started functioning by offering BA with HEP and HES, B. Com and BBM along with English and Kannada languages. In the year 2014-15 B.Sc Coures was started with the combination of Physics , Mathematics and Computer Science to cater to the need of rural students.

One of the classrooms was used for providing a library facility for the students with 3000 books in the beginning. With the recruitment of more number of teaching staff by the state government, in the year 2009, as many as 8 qualified and experienced permanent faculty members were posted to the college which helped in the overall development of the college.
