Sir M V Govt Science College, Bommanakatte, Bhadravathi

Sir MV Govt Science College is affiliated to Kuvempu University and has been given B++ rating by NAAC. The Bhadra Education society understood the growing need for higher education in the city and thus started the Bhadra College in 1968 which had PU and BA courses. In 1973, B.Com course was also introduced. An evening college was also started around that time in order to meet the needs of people who could not attend Day College due to their circumstance. 

The Bhadra College was taken over by VISL and MPM management in 1975. The college got shifted to new campus in 1976 and VISL was generous to donate its entire property for the college. The college was later named as Sir.M.Visveswaraya Arts, Commerce and Science College. The campus is well connected with good road connectivity to the city and has a lush green campus. The college has a beautiful fountain in the middle. The college introduced B.Sc course in 1976 along with science optional at the PUC level with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology as the science subjects.

The college has started growing from strength to strength and later added laboratory facility. The number of students started increasing and thus the management decided to separate science faculty from Arts and Commerce faculty.

The newly built building at Bommanakatte started housing the science section starting from 1986 and the college has around 10.5 acres of land. The college has a sprawling and lush green campus which is away from noises of the city which provides an ideal atmosphere for learning activities. The college has well equipped labs and library, very spacious rooms, well ventilated and furnished. College has also got very good sports facility. 

Among the many facilities offered include: A reading room, an auditorium, a separate ladies waiting room, a separate staff room for each department with common staff room for languages and mathematics department. The college infrastructure is wonderful and open air atmosphere is provided for a lot of activities. 

In order to manage both Science as well as Arts and Commerce College, the VISL trust was established. The government has taken over both the colleges starting from 1995. 

The college possesses most of the science streams such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, CS, Botany, biotech, zoology, microbiology, BCA and PG courses. Kuvempu University has recognized the Industrial Chemistry department at Sir M V Govt Science College, Bommanakatte as a research centre.
