The Vijayanagara Empire was an empire was born in the plateau of the Deccan , in central-southern India , which at the time of greatest glory came to possess the southern third of the subcontinent. In kannada is known for Vijayanagara Samrajya. Established in 1336 by Harihara I and his brother Bukka Raya I , existed until 1646 , but its decline began after a crushing military defeat against the sultanates of the Deccan in 1565 of which would never recover.
