World Youth Day 2011

The XXIV International Meeting of the World Youth Day 2011 is announced in the city of Madrid, capital of Spain, from 16 to 21 August 2011. The theme of WYD 2011 is: "Rooted and Built Up in Jesus Christ, Firm in the Faith".

The World Youth Day is an event organized by the Catholic Church which is held every three years with an international character. In preparation for the meeting of the Youth Cross and Icon of the Virgin, symbols of World Youth Day began on September 14 of 2009 in Madrid his usual tour of the dioceses of the host country.

The Pontifical Council for the Laity approved May 25 of 2010 the proposal of the Archbishop of Madrid Anthem for World Youth Day 2011. The composer of the hymn is Enrique Vazquez Castro and the author of the letter Archbishop Martinez Franco Caesar Augustus, Auxiliary Bishop of Madrid and Coordinator General of the World Youth Day 2011. This hymn was published in the website and announced at a ceremony held in the Almudena during the day November 8, 2010.

Announcement

Benedict XVI made ??the official announcement on July 20 of 2008 in Sydney, during the closing ceremony of the XXIII World Youth Day. Every three years marks one of these international meetings venues alternating far between Europe and other continents.

It is the second time that Spain hosts the international event. The IV World Youth Day was held and in Santiago de Compostela in 1989.

Pope Benedict XVI named co-patron of this conference to San Rafael Arnaiz Baron, St. Francis Xavier, St. Isidro Labrador, St. Mary's Head, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. John of Avila, St. Rose of Lima, St. John of the Cross and Blessed John Paul II.

Tour de la Cruz

The Cross of World Youth Days was delivered to representatives of the Spanish Catholic Youth April 5, 2009, Palm Sunday and XXIII World Youth Day by young Australians in the Vatican in the presence of the Pope.

The September 14 Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross began the pilgrimage of the Cross Youth and Icon of Our Lady for the different vicariate of the Archdiocese of Madrid. This tour lasted until the end of March 2010 from then starts their journey across the country.
