KINGSTON, JAMAICA - (Marketwire - January 13, 2010) - Digicel expresses its deep sorrow and concern about the devastation caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday.

Although our building Turgeau in Port-au-Prince yesterday withstood the earthquake and were able to evacuate all 900 employees of the building, our duty is very sad to confirm that two of our staff members lost their lives.

We are deeply shocked and saddened by this terrible loss and would like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to all family, friends and colleagues at this very painful.

In terms of Digicel's network, although it suffered some damage during the earthquake, the network is operating. Having said that, due to the unprecedented number of people attempting to communicate with family and friends in Haiti, we have experienced and continue to have extensive congestion. To be clear, the network is now operational, however, some people may still have trouble making or receiving calls.

This morning, we sent a team of technical experts to Haiti to assess accurately the situation in the country and type of support required in terms of network equipment and emergency assistance.

We have announced a donation of $ 5 million for NGOs (NGO) in Haiti to support the massive relief effort to help rebuild Haiti.

Grant also launching lines during the hours open for the public to make donations to the people of Haiti, backed by a popular campaign of press, radio and TV.

Obviously, we are all deeply shocked. Today is a great pity for Digicel and the Haitian people and will do whatever is necessary to support relief efforts desperately needed. Team spirit and commitment to support the entire organization, including former employees, are extremely appreciated and needed. Today assess what additional resources and specific help we need and we will arrange to bring this human capital to Haiti as soon as possible.

The Haitian people welcomed us and made us part of your community with our launch in 2006 and we are determined to offer our full support in their time of need. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Haiti and would like to assure you that Digicel is well prepared to help in every way we can in these difficult times
