India won the first test match of the Airtel India vs. Australia Test series thereby ensuring an unassailable 1-0 lead in the series and that Ponting's men won’t conquer the final frontier this time around as well.

The match had seen fortunes switch ends right from the beginning with Australia putting up a decent first innings score on the board before India reached close to their score. If the honors were stevens in the first innings, the second innings was one of the most thrilling and nervy encounter of the game. India was tottering at an overnight score of 55-4 and the prime men were back in the hut before even posting an appreciable score on the board.

Laxman steers India home against Australia

India began the day with Zaheer Khan and Sachin Tendulkar at the crease but they could not last long and India suddenly collapsed to a score of 124-8 which made most of the Indian supporters think that the game is done and dusted. But it was the sheer determination of the 9th wicket pair of Ishant Sharma and VVS Laxman that held their nerve when it mattered and scripted a famous win for India against Australia in this crucial encounter.

The crowd too was behind the home team and cheering for every single run scored by their batsmen this spurred the chances of the batsmen to seal the victory. Ishant joined the ailing Laxman when India was battling for survival and played a good hand to score runs at regular intervals and keep the score board ticking. He scored a few boundaries of pace bowlers and ensured that all the pressure would not be on Laxman.

But all the damage today was inflicted by the cool Laxman who stood at the crease till the end to see India home. He battled the pain with Raina as his runner to be determined to finish the game in style.

Ishant departed due to some poor umpiring and an unlucky dismissal meant that Ojha had to come out with 12 runs still needed but he too kept his calm to steer India to the winning runs and take an unbeatable lead.

The man of the match award was given to the well deserving India's left hand paceman Zaheer khan for his 5 wicket haul in the first innings and a short burst in the end of Australia's second innings. Android app
