Government First Grade College Kuvempu Nagara, Mysore

Established in 1996-97, Government First Grade College, Kuvempunagar , Mysore holds the distinction of being the first government co-educational college in the Heritage City of Mysore.

The college is on the threshold of completing two decades of its fruitful existence. After a decade of its establishment, the college was duly recognized under sections 2(f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act 1956. This immensely helped the college in faster development. The college had a very humble beginning with a handful of students. About the infrastructure the college possessed in the early years, the less said the better.

The college had no building of its own and functioned on the first floor of a police station. But surely and steadily the college moved in the right direction under the guidance from the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka and also under the able administration of various Principals. The support of all the stakeholders in the progress of the college cannot be forgotten.

The college is affiliated to University of Mysore, one of the oldest and prestigious universities of the country. The college at present runs four Undergraduate programmes viz., Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM).

From a handful of students, the college now boasts of student strength of more than one thousand. Though the college is situated in the heart of the city, most of the students come from adjoining villages. The college mainly caters to the needs of students belonging to rural areas and also to the disadvantaged sections of the society. Many of the students are the first timers pursuing UG course in their families.

The college was assessed and accredited with ‘B’ Grade by the NAAC in 2007,and Re-accredition with B grade with CGPA of 2.62  in 2015
